Extra-low voltage

ELV & Low Current Systems

The systems that run on signal rather than power — and the one package on this site we are not yet licensed to sell.

ELV (extra-low voltage) or low current systems are the non-power electrical services in a building — fire alarm and detection, CCTV, access control, structured data cabling, building management systems and public address. NRGC already installs fire detection within its mechanical scope and the containment and cabling routes within its electrical scope; the full ELV package is an upcoming service, pending licence approval.

Upcoming service · pending approval

Upcoming service, pending approval. NRGC has not yet completed the licence and registration required to contract for the full ELV and low current package, so this scope is not currently offered for tender. The page is published so the intent is on the record. Talk to us about the containment, cable routes and fire detection elements we already deliver today, and we will tell you plainly what has to wait.

Low current work is the layer of a building that carries signal rather than power: detection, surveillance, door control, data and building automation. It is normally let as a separate specialist package, and it is normally the package that arrives last and fights the ceiling void for space.

Two parts of it are already inside our scope today. Fire protection and detection is listed in our mechanical work and delivered by our own crews, and the containment, trays, conduit and cable routes that every ELV system runs on are installed by our electricians as part of the electrical package. The remainder — surveillance, access control, structured cabling and building management systems — is the scope awaiting approval.

Planned scope

  • Fire alarm and detection systems
  • CCTV and surveillance
  • Access control and door entry
  • Structured cabling and data racks
  • Building management systems (BMS)
  • Public address, intercom and voice evacuation
  • Containment, trays and conduit for ELV routes
  • Termination, testing and system commissioning

Containment, conduit and cable routes are delivered today under Electrical Services, and fire detection under Firefighting & Fire Protection. Everything else on this list is subject to the approval above.

Questions

About this service

Can NRGC quote for a full ELV package today?

No. The licence and registration for the complete ELV and low current scope is still in progress, and we will not tender for work we are not yet licensed to sign for. We can quote the containment, conduit and cable routes under our electrical package, and fire detection under our firefighting package.

When will the service be available?

It depends on the approval, not on us, so we are not putting a date on this page that we might miss. Contact the office and we will tell you where the application stands at that moment.

What can NRGC do on a low current package right now?

We install the physical infrastructure that ELV systems depend on — cable tray, trunking, conduit, floor boxes and back boxes — set out and installed by our own electricians and cable tray technicians, coordinated with the ceiling and services routing on our shop drawings. A specialist ELV contractor then pulls, terminates and commissions.
